Pepper export in the first months of year
According to Vietnam pepper Association (VPA), in the quarter I of the year 2009, our country exported 27,075 tons of pepper with turnover of 65.9 million USD, up 93% of output and 31.8% in value compared with same period in 2008.
During 8 consecutive years (2001-2008) Vietnam has led the world in pepper export. In 2008, pepper export reached nearly 90,250 tons with the turnover of 310 million USD.

Up to now, our country has ended the pepper harvest in 2009 with total of production reached 95,000 tons, increasing 4 thousand tons compared with 2008. Pepper productivity has been improved, especially in Chu Se district (Gia Lai province), the average productivity reached 5-7 tons/ha/crop, even there are some pepper gardens reaching 10 tons/ha/crop. In Nhan Hoa town, Chu Se district, there are over 100 households growing pepper in the large-scale, production reached over 30 tons of dried pepper/crop, even some of them reserve about 100 tons of dried pepper.
Although, the price of pepper now decreased, only 52% equal with the same period in 2008, but thank to high productivity, pepper growers still have net interest about 50% (in 2008, net interest about 60% - 70%).
VPA said that the average export price of some kinds of pepper in the world during the period from 18/4 - 25/4/2009 as follows: India’s pepper of ASTA had price of 2800 USD/ton; the price of 500gl Vietnam’s pepper was 1,950 USD/ton; Brazil’ B1 pepper price about 2,100USD/ton.
The murky background of the world pepper market has pulled Vietnam’s pepper price down, now, it is about 30,000-33,000VND/kg.
The pepper source of supply in world markets are deficient, while the consumption needs in some big imported countries have not been fully met, the statistics in these countries shows that the situation of pepper import is gloomy. Pepper has become an indispensable part of the food of the world, so the demands of pepper will not decrease strongly whether economic degradation, the pepper supply is still limited and the lack of pepper supply will be easily happened and speed up the price of pepper increasing as supply-demand law.
So, basically pepper market still receives the support to exit the deep momentum of reduction. Experts of VPA suggest that pepper enterprises  should not export pepper massively, but sell it moderately in order to control actively export price.
