Expanding trade with Greece
Conditions exist under which Vietnam-Greece trade relations can be improved, said Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Petros Doukas at the Vietnam-Greece Business Forum on October 14, 2008.
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), in coordination with the Greek Embassy in Vietnam and the Greece Businesses Federation, sponsored the forum to coincide with Greek President Karolos Papoulias's visit to Vietnam from October 11-16. The Greek President visited Vietnam at the invitation of Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Russian firms urged to seek trade with Viet Nam
Russian enterprises were urged to take full advantage of the stable politics and young labour resources in Viet Nam to exploit more trade and investment opportunities. The encouragement came during the Viet Nam – Russia Business Forum in Ha Noi last Saturday.
Russia is an important partner for Viet Nam, especially in trade and investment, affirmed the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) chairman Vu Tien Loc. He said that Russian investment projects, notably the Viet Nam-Russia Oil and Gas Joint Venture (Vietsovpetro), have made an active contribution to the country’s socio-economic development.

Laos to export organic coffee next year
Laos is expected to export organic coffee to the European Union, the United States and Japan next year to meet increasingly growing demands for this kind of coffee in the markets, said the country’s Association of Coffee Producers.
Laos plans to export 20 tonnes of organic coffee in 2009 with total value of 30 million USD and its coffee export volume will increase gradually in the ensuing years, the Association said.

Nestle: Enhances the Taste of Vietnamese Coffee
Each year, Nestle uses about 25 percent of Vietnam's total coffee export volume for the production of Nestle coffee at its factories around the world, said Nestle Vietnam general director Pierre Schaufelberger.
In 1930, the Brazilian government for the first time met Nestle leadership to seek way to turn coffee beans into instant coffee, making it convenient for the users. Later after that Max Morgenthaler, a leading scientist by that time working at Nestle laboratory, together with some colleagues, found a recipe to turn the dream into reality. After seven years of research, instant coffee products were sold in the marketplace in April 1938.
Nestle Vietnam received a license to do business in Vietnam in 1995. Three years later, in 1998 it began producing its instant coffee (Nestle coffee) at its factory in Dong Nai. Right from the inception, Nestle Vietnam uses Vietnam's best coffee beans in the production.

Domestic businesses would need to study Japan’s import rules
Domestic businesses would need to study the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), slated to be signed by Viet Nam and Japan by the end of the year, said the Minister of Industry and Trade, Vu Huy Hoang. In order to fully utilise the agreement for exporters benefit, local firms needed to understand Japanese import regulations, he said.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade in co-operation with other industries would introduce the provisions of the agreement in order to raise awareness among firms on regulations and help discover opportunities, he said, adding that the EPA, which had received agreement in principle by the two sides, would create opportunities for exporters to better penetrate the Japanese market, especially for agro, forestry and fishery enterprises.

Vietnam, South Africa boost tourism cooperation
A seminar to examine ways of strengthening Vietnam- South Africa cooperation in tourism was held in Hanoi on October 6. The seminar, entitled “ South Africa – where everything is possible”, focused on informing Vietnamese tourism companies about the tourism potential of South Africa , one of the most attractive destinations in the world.
The visiting South African Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Rejoice Mabudafhasi told the seminar that she saw huge potential for tourism cooperation between the two countries as they both have an abundance of natural beauty and attach great importance to the development of this industry.

Germany: An Important Trading Partner and Export Market
Coffee - one of Vietnam products exported into Germany
Businesses in Hanoi welcomed around 20 business leaders from the state of Hessen (Germany) at the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) office on September 8, 2008. Increasing cooperation with German partners will be increasing production, business and exports, an aspiration of not a few Vietnamese companies.
Vietnamese businesses like German because it is a leading economy in the European Union (EU) and the world in car-making, manufacturing and the chemical and electronic industries. Located in the heart of the EU, Germany ranks third in the world in terms of GDP, following only the US and Japan. It's the world's second largest exporter with US$1.334 trillion in exports and a leading importer with US$1.089 trillion in imports in 2007.

Businesses learn about US regulations on product safety
The Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the US Embassy in Hanoi jointly held a seminar on September 12 to introduce regulations on safety for Vietnamese products exported to the US.
Experts from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) provided the latest information about the US Consumer Product Safety Act and instructed Vietnamese businesses to avoid risks when exporting their products to the US.
Nancy A.Nord, CPSC Acting President, said that it is necessary to organise the seminar as trade turnover between the two countries has increased rapidly from US$1 billion a decade ago to US$12 billion last year. She said she hopes that sharing information will help Vietnamese producers and managers understand about ways to examine and export goods to the US.

Daily Coffee market report – 28th July, 2008
NEW YORK
ICE Futures U.S. September arabica contract settled 2.10 cents higher at $1.373 per lb, in dealings from $1.3435 to $1.38. September volume at 8,970 lots.
Arabica coffee futures closed firmer Friday on roaster and investor buying in light volume as the dollar fell, while producers continued to sit on the sidelines, dealers said.
Many Brazilian coffee growers continued to stay out of the market, an unusual move during the harvest season. Brazil's government will announce a financial support by August for coffee farmers in the world's top grower - National Coffee Council said Thursday.

Weekly coffee report 14 July 2008
The London coffee market closed on Friday slightly down from its highs of the day but with a better tone than Thursday with September being some 17 $ above the previous close. Some are calling this movement a consolidation, as part of the 50% retracement which should take us up to the 2400 basis benchmark  September; others are skeptical, expecting a further drop soon, back to the recent previous lows and even further.
In the meantime the structure in London remains at surprising strong backwardation, the July tenders seems to be stopped mainly by only one strong hand and the spread July/September is widening, as well as the September/November spread. Maybe the availabilities of certified stocks tenderable against the Robusta LIFFE market are not quite as comfortable as it was widely announced.
